The Church of England has made a commitment to aim for Net Zero Carbon emissions by 2030 and has called on all parishes to do the same. The PCC has risen to the challenge, and in May 2022 adopted the Diocesan Climate Change Policy thereby committing us to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2030 with an interim target of a 25% energy use reduction by 2025 compared to a 2005 baseline. Planning for changes to meet these targets began in the autumn, using the Pathway to Net Zero carbon emissions checklist provided by the central church authorities.

We are a registered EcoChurch, and in June 2022 received their Bronze Award. We are continuing to progress towards the Silver and Gold Awards. We recognise that our efforts cannot be simply about upgrading our building: the commitment to Creation Care is part of our ministry of compassion for the wider world, particularly those people and places most affected by the effects of climate change.

We commit ourselves also to pray and to act on their behalf as we work towards the ambition of becoming a Carbon neutral church.
